Il you have a HP Procurve 1700-8 (J9079A) 802.1Q switch you can reset the configuration back to default (because of bad configuration or lost password). There is no reset button on the switch box nor inside. To reset the configuration simply put a RJ cable from port 1 to port 2. Light up the switch, wait for bootup to complete and shut it down. Remove the cable and power up again. Your switch is back to default configuration.</p>
